Bringing Back the Draft

November 20th, 2006 by Senior Editor: Jeff

Congressman Rangel has recently said he is going to push to reinstate the military draft.  He says it would help deter wars because the legislators who make the decisions would think twice if their own children might be sent into battle.  He would even include women.  Two previous attempts by Rangel went nowhere (one even included people age 18 to 42).

I seem to remember a couple years ago rumors and threats were spread that Republicans were going to reinstate the draft. (Kerry too.)  Why are they not being called out on this?  True, Democrat leaders are trying to stop him, but liberal blogs are cheering him on. Just goes to show you: it's not the message but the messenger.

Ok, I can't leave it that.  What in the world?!  It really isn't about the troops is it?  Right now we have thousands of men and women overseas fighting a war.  They volunteered to do it (bless them for that).  These volunteers are the ones we need to bring home, and send in their place those who have been forced into service in order to "teach the war mongers a lesson?"  The line "we support the troops, but not their mission," is even more hollow now. I'm going to go throw up now.
