The House Speaks

April 2nd, 2007 by Senior Editor: Jeff

Recently, the House passed the President’s $100 billion emergency spending bill for Iraq. However, they added a few provisions. 1. The troops must withdraw from Iraq next year and 2. we need an extra $20 billion in pork.

Yes, you read it right: in order to pass this bill, over $20 billion was included for pet projects:

$283 million for the Milk Income Loss Contract program;

$100 million for citrus assistance;

$74 million for peanut storage costs;

$25 million for spinach growers;

I know I’m a little late in recording this, but a recent editorial cartoon summed it up nicely for me.

Ridiculous.

Update: Senator Coburn is trying (unsuccessfully) to fight some of the pork.
