Building Future Relationships

Presidential hopeful Senator Clinton is building a strong relationship with the Pentagon:
“Premature and public discussion of the withdrawal of U.S. forces from Iraq reinforces enemy propaganda that the United States will abandon its allies in Iraq, much as we are perceived to have done in Vietnam, Lebanon and Somalia,” [Undersecretary of Defense] Edelman wrote.
He added that “such talk understandably unnerves the very same Iraqi allies we are asking to assume enormous personal risks.”
The Clinton camp took the high road and refused to address the criticism:
Clinton spokesman Philippe Reines called Edelman’s answer “at once outrageous and dangerous,” and said the senator would respond to his boss, Defense Secretary Robert Gates.
(in other words: “I’m telling on you, poopoohead.”) This is further evidence that Clinton can’t tolerate criticism. How will she respond once the media starts really examining her (as they will, if they want to maintain credibility)? Will we go from the extreme of our current president who lets all criticism go unheeded to the other of a president that lobs off heads?
We’ll find out in 16 months (yes, it is that far away).
