Blood for Oil

In Brazil, sugarcane field workers endure harsh working conditions that some times lead to death: 18 people have died in the past three years.
“Sweat, blood and death bathe the sugar and alcohol made in Brazil,” ÂÂ
Sugarcane? Yes, this is how Brazil makes its ethanol. And the spilled blood of these workers is on the hands of those who insist we switch to ethanol from oil. We have traded their blood for oil…(not to mention that they are burning down rain forests to grow sugarcane–is that better than the oil wells?)
So, ethanol is all fine and dandy as an alternative to oil, but what about other alternatives? Does it have to be only ethanol? What about an incentive program that rewards all possibilities, and not just one?
