People Reject Socialism And Chavez-For-Life

December 13th, 2007 by Editor: Scott

In a shocking defeat to the world’s friendliest Dictator President, the people of Venezuela voted down Hugo Chavez’s brave new socialistic world. The reforms included:

  • ending presidential term limits
  • appointing local leaders under a redrawn political map
  • ending the central bank’s autonomy
  • reduction in the working day to six hours
  • creating a social fund for informal workers
  • further establishing community councils where residents can decide how to spend government money

Isn’t it great how socialism can promise reduced work and increased spending? It’s magic! The best part, of course, was the brilliant speech by Hugo himself as he provided the political analysis from the state-run TV networks:

“Perhaps I made a mistake in the timing of my proposals, that could be, that we (the people of Venezuela) are not politically mature enough,” he said.

Romney Needs Atheist’s Prayers?

December 13th, 2007 by Editor: Scott

Mitt Romney made a compelling speech last week in an attempt to move past the Mormonism issue…

It’s important to recognize that while differences in theology exist between the churches in America, we share a common creed of moral convictions…  In recent years, the notion of the separation of church and state has been taken by some well beyond its original meaning.  They seek to remove from the public domain any acknowledgment of God.  Religion is seen as merely a private affair with no place in public life.  It’s as if they’re intent on establishing a new religion in America, the religion of secularism.  They are wrong.  The Founders proscribed the establishment of a state religion, but they did not countenance the elimination of religion from the public square.  We are a nation under God, and in God we do, indeed, trust…

Romney’s attempts to go more macro and appeal to Christians in general has been meet with criticism that he has left out the “faithless” Americans.  Beyond the political correctness of this complaint is a sheer idiocy.  For instance where Mitt says:

No candidate should become the spokesman for his faith. For if he becomes President he will need the prayers of the people of all faiths…

Tycoon Offers $1 Million If Kerry Can Disprove Swift Boaters

December 12th, 2007 by Editor: Scott

Texas oil tycoon T. Boone Pickens  apparently has offered Senator Kerry a $1 million gift to Charity if he can offer actual proof  to disprove any of the claims from the infamous  swift boater ads.  Personally I think it would be more incentive if Kerry got the money, but then where would the write-off come from - right?

As of today, no money has changed hands.

Hillary Calls Out The Ministers

December 11th, 2007 by Editor: Scott

Hillary’s campaign got a boost from the religious when a large group of church ministers came out to show support.  80, 88, 100, 82, 81, 47?, 32? Ministers were at the event.  It seems the farther the AP dug the fewer (actual, legitimate) ministers it found.  Even a couple of the church listed appear to be made up.

I don’t understand why the religious right doesn’t follow the heir apparent more…  A third right is not bad for the Clinton campaign.
