About ARO

American Republic Online is a real-time online magazine funded by the think tank: The American Republic Institute. The stated mission of the American Republic Institute is to formulate and promote traditional American ideals and public policies through informing and educating both the populace and the politicians. These ideals are based on the principles of free enterprise operating in free markets, individual freedom and personal responsibility, ever increased efficiency and technological innovation and, of course, limited government. The ARI provides innovative solutions grounded in traditional ideals to problems facing both the governed and the government itself.

As the public face of the ARI, the ARO reflects these aims. It should be noted that, the Editors of the ARO are all Senior Fellows of the ARI. In addition to this distinguished position, the contributors to the ARO hold many other fellowships and distinguished chairs. Below is a short listing (in no particular order) of the organizations to which ARO staffers are honorees:

  • Institute of Constitutional Studies
  • American Center for Scholars
  • National Institute of Economic Education
  • Policy Priorities & Progress Center
  • International Council For Democracy
  • The Institute For Political Innovation
  • Scholars of the Republic of the United States
  • Center for Reform Policy Research
  • Freedom Defense Institute

Now that you understand the background of the American Republic Online, let us welcome you to a place for lovers of liberty to gather and learn about current events, read commentary, and enjoy the quotes and random fun link.

As many realize, our motto is taken from Friedman’s Capitalism and Freedom. It may seem pretentious to suggest that we are carrying the same banner as such a great man, but when we look about no one else is. Someone has to. If we can do that in any small measure then the cause of Liberty marches forward.

It may be best to think of ARO as an editorial page rather than the front page.  There are far better sources for finding up to date news, and that is not our intent.  Instead, we mean to only offer commentary on current events, not break stories.  That said, we do try to find stories that you may have missed, or have been overlooked by larger media sources.
